Cat power

While I have no clear favorite in this year’s quest to become America’s Favorite Dancer, my love for So You Think You Can Dance host Cat Deeley grows stronger still with every passing week.

That smile. Those legs. Yes, this Cat once prowled the runways of the world, but did you know she’s the niece of SYTYCD producer/judge Nigel Lythgoe? Nepotism or not, my affection for this Birmingham beauty isn’t relative. I can’t take my eyes off of her—or my ears for that matter, since the statuesque package is paired with a fantastic English accent.

But lest you think I’m taking Ms. Deeley at face value, I’m a fan because it’s clear she cares about the gig she’s got. She pays attention to each performance, provides genuine support to the contestants, smartly responds to the judges’ comments (good and bad), and consistently aces the art of the segue. Straight from her online bio:

“Even when the judges perhaps some weeks turn around and go, ‘That was atrocious, terrible, you don’t deserve to be here,’ I’m still the person that helps [the contestants] pick up the pieces and kind of squeezes their hand and carries them on, you know?”

Can you imagine a certain American Idol host expressing a similar connection to those with whom he shares the stage? (Suck it, Seacrest.)

Plus, Deeley is so darn charming and self-deprecating to boot. So please, someone, nominate my favorite under-the-radar “hostess with the mostest” for an Emmy. Though she claims to possess two left feet, I think her moves are truly best in class.

So You Think You Can Dance airs tonight at 9/8 Central on Fox.
