Father Tiger covers Kenny Rogers & Sheena Easton

Sure, Bob Seger wrote “We’ve Got Tonight” and recorded it first, reaching #13 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1978, but Kenny Rogers and Sheena Easton’s duet version was the bigger hit, peaking at #6 in 1983. The pair also climbed into the #1 seat on the Country chart.

KennyRogersSheenaEastonWe'veGotTonightRogers and Easton’s version I immediately think of should anyone mention “We’ve Got Tonight,” which probably isn’t often enough. And I imagine their recording was the reference point when Father Tiger decided to cover “We’ve Got Tonight” for the Los Angeles duo’s new covers EP, Summer Solstice.

Father Tiger’s take isn’t a duet, however, so it’s entirely possible that Greg Delson and John Russell are big Bob Seger fans (and really, who can resist “Night Moves” and “Against The Wind”). But Seger’s solo “We’ve Got Tonight” certainly never shimmered like this. And with the cover’s quasi-men’s chorus backing vocals of a piece with Pet Shop Boys, Father Tiger has forged a distinct third take on the 35-year-old tune.

“We’ve Got Tonight” is track 3 on Father Tiger’s Summer Solstice EP, which also includes covers of Lana Del Rey (“Young And Beautiful” and an amped up, early Depeche Mode-esque “Summertime Sadness”), Adele (“Set Fire To The Rain”), Taylor Swift (“Safe And Sound”), and Simon & Garfunkel (“April Come She Will”).
