The first six months of 2020 have brought a wealth of new tunes for our aural enjoyment, including more than a few that are flat-out brilliant.
While I was already wowed by [STRANGERS]‘ single “Something New,” released in March, today the London trio returned with “Sense Of Liberty,” refusing to let even a single second of 2020’s second half pass by without dazzling my eardrums all over again, though in a strikingly different way.
If “Something New” saw [STRANGERS] letting a little more light into their dark pop, on “Sense Of Liberty,” the band has torn down the curtains, thrown open the shutters, and are unashamedly basking in the bright sunlight.
Fittingly, “Sense Of Liberty” is the first track produced solely by [STRANGERS], with drummer Raife Hacking on knob-twiddling duties. “The song is about how we go through life chasing the next thrill, the things that keep us feeling alive, whether it be chasing your dream or living for the weekend,” frontman David Maddox-Jones informs Popservations. “It’s a song everyone should be able to relate to with a personal message as well.”
Who can’t relate to that feeling, especially this time of year? By sharing the joyous, uninhibited abandon of “Sense Of Liberty” just as summer really hits, [STRANGERS] show they’ve got a great sense of timing too.
