From the late ’80s through the early ’90s, Exposé enjoyed quite a chart run. After exposing the freestyle dance genre to the masses with hits like “Come Go With Me,” “Point Of No Return,” and “Let Me Be The One,” the Miami-based trio discovered its softer side with “Seasons Change,” which went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

All told, Exposé’s first seven singles reached the Top 10, the first girl group to achieve that feat. While I appreciate the dancier side of Exposé in retrospect (at the time, I was only mildly enthusiastic), I fell head over heels for the dreamy “When I Looked At Him.” The pre-chorus vocals are what hooked me in 1989, and still do it for me now.

Of course, had I seen the video, that might have made this song even more of a keeper:

In 1996, Exposé were dropped by their label and the group disbanded. After a long hiatus, Jeanette, Ann, and Gioia reunited in 2003, and the trio has since been touring state fairs, casinos, and — surprise, surprise — gay pride events.
