Coming off of pair of collaborations with electronic duo French Horn Rebellion (“Cold Enough” and “Dancing Out”), Jody Watley is once again working the dancefloor as a solo artist on new track, “Nightlife.”
Returning to her funk-disco roots, Watley is in complete command on the celebratory song. Exuding confidence and a dash of sass — “I’m gonna get my hair done, nails done, I’m gonna get my drag on!” — the stylish, trailblazing diva offers a shout-out to global bastions of dance culture, including New York, London, Ibiza, and Tokyo. Watley also gives the underground dance style waacking a special moment in the spotlight.
Shalamar’s original male lead, Gerald Brown, contributes backing vocals on “Nightlife,” a subtle nod to Watley’s days in the trio. Already pretty damned irresistible in its ‘Single Preview Edit’ form, I’m looking forward to the full version of “Nightlife” and the remixes that are most certain to follow.
