Having burnished the RAC name through several years’ worth of remixes for the likes of Lana Del Rey, U2, and Gossip and treating SoundCloud fans to a selection of surprising covers (featuring his wife, Liz), André Allen Anjos is readying RAC’s first EP of original material. Don’t Talk To will be released via Cherrytree Records on October 1.
Last year’s collaboration with Penguin Prison, “Hollywood,” makes the cut alongside new RAC team-ups featuring Tokyo Police Club (“Tourist”), Katie Herzig (“We Belong”), and on the EP’s first single, “Let Go,” Kele Okereke of Bloc Party and MNDR (Amanda Warner).
Kele’s appearance on “Let Go” represents something of a full circle moment for the Portland-based producer, as Bloc Party was the first band Anjos ever remixed, way back in 2005.
“With remixes it was always about adapting to the original song. It takes a lot of self-control not to impose your own style,” he says. “In many ways, this EP was about forgetting that and creating something that was my own. All of the years of experimentation have led me to this. I’m thrilled to have collaborated with people I really admire and the result is something I’m incredibly proud of.”
“Let Go” has a loose, relaxed Tom Tom Club quality — check the bass and percussive elements — that’s easy to get lost in, especially as the sun begins to set on yet another summer. Click play and let go with RAC and his guest crew of two.
