Avril Lavigne has a released an absolutely bonkers music video for her new single, “Rock N Roll.”
The follow-up to “Here’s To Never Growing Up” features the newly married Mrs. Nickelback in classic middle-finger form once more (she’s serious about this arrested development schtick). Yet Avril’s still full of surprises, whether getting the thumbs-up from guest star Billy Zane (on a rocket-equipped Segway) or macking on Winnie Cooper from The Wonder Years (complete with nostalgic voiceover). She also fends off a knife-wielding lobster, buries her dog/driver, and spars with a bearshark. And in a brilliant sendup for the song’s guitar break, Avril apes Slash, “November Rain”-style.
The Sony phone bit at the beginning (with its “Sk8er Boi” reference) has to be the best product placement of the ever. Sending up the sorry state of the 21st century music industry and “Sk8er Boi” in one 30-second swoop? Now that’s rock and roll.
Avril Lavigne – “Rock N Roll” is out August 27.
