Kendra Morris covers Radiohead

For the follow-up to her 2012 debut, Banshee, singer-songwriter Kendra Morris decided to give some others’ songs a go. Mockingbird was released at the end of July, featuring retro soul and funk covers of David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Lou Reed, and more.

RadioheadKarmaPoliceBut Mockingbird is more than a parade of rock-and-roll oldies, with Morris also making room for a smattering of tunes of more recent vintage. Sure, Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game” has been covered countless times in recent memory, but Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” and The Proclaimers’ “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)” are far from typical picks.

From that same left-field camp comes Radiohead’s “Karma Police,” which Morris and producer Jeremy Page have reimagined as a fever dream. And when she exclaims, “I’ve given it all I can!” Morris conjures a vision of another blue-eyed soulster who was a deft interpreter of others’ tunes, the iconic Dusty Springfield.
