With disco grooves sliding back into the mainstream, last year’s loss of Donna Summer is all the more poignant.
While the Queen of Disco’s light was dimmed all too early at 63, her legacy continues with the release of Love To Love You Donna, an album of newly remixed classics. Out on October 22, those called to duty in the service of Summer include Giorgio Moroder, Chris Cox, Frankie Knuckles, Eric Kupper, Hot Chip, and Chromeo & Oliver — a mix of collaborators old and new.
Featuring 13 remix plus an unreleased track produced by Moroder, first up from Love To Love You Donna is Chromeo & Oliver’s electro revamp of “Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger),” a #10 hit for Summer in 1982, originally produced by Quincy Jones. The nu-disco update includes a new music video, incorporating clips from her original video and some classic movie footage, treated with modern effects.
High expectations are being set for the album’s second single, a remix of “Love To Love You Baby” as reimagined by original producer Giorgio Moroder and Chris Cox. The duo premiered the track earlier this month during their Way Out West set in Sweden.
