Aside from their 2005 debut single, “I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor,” English indie rockers Arctic Monkeys haven’t made much of a ripple on this side of the pond. The Alex Turner-led band do seem to be a much bigger deal back at home, or at least NME would have us believe that to be true.
Next week, Arctic Monkeys will release their fifth album, AM, which they’ve previewed via three singles released since February. The latest, “Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?” has just been covered by [STRANGERS] as a bonus to the London trio’s free download series.
[STRANGERS] gives the song a slinky late-night feel that later yields to a frenetic drum-and-bass finale. While I can’t imagine anyone with eyes ignoring Turner’s call, altered state or not, [STRANGERS]’ recording of “Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?” is definitely the one I’d rather dial up.
Free download of [STRANGERS] – “Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?” (Arctic Monkeys cover) via the band’s website.
[STRANGERS] have also premiered “Don’t Lie To Me,” the third entry in the dark synthpoppers’ aforementioned series of original songs. Can’t miss the Violator-era Depeche Mode vibes on this one. Free download coming soon.
