Next year marks the 50th anniversary of The Beatles‘ U.S. invasion, a milestone that will most certainly be celebrated in a big way throughout 2014.
What was originally thought a fad became the very fabric of pop music, with the Fab Four leaving a legacy unlike any other. Beyond the songs themselves — brilliant, melodic, simple, intricate — John, Paul, George, and Ringo also elevated the album format, filled stadiums, influenced fashion, introduced the music video as a promotional tool, ventured into licensed merchandise, and helmed their own record label. The Beatles remain the biggest-selling band in the U.S. and still hold the record for most number-ones on the Billboard Hot 100, with 20.
Indicative of The Beatles’ staying power in pop culture, Glee returns on September 26 with the first of two episodes dedicated to their music, featuring 14 covers from the Fab Four’s songbook. And just ahead of Frankmusik‘s release of Between Us, a new album featuring acoustic versions of June’s Between, the London electro-pop wonder has covered The Beatles’ “From Me To You,” their first UK #1 hit and the first Lennon-McCartney composition to enter the Hot 100 (courtesy of a 1963 cover version by Del Shannon).
Frankmusik’s take on “From Me To You” is beautiful, brilliant, and a bunch of other superlative adjectives. How many 50-year-old songs are being covered by today’s artists and re-crafted to sound this fresh? Just this one. The Beatles have an amazing legacy, and thanks to Frankmusik for spotlighting it with his 21st century tribute, a free download with love from him to us.
