New Life For Inner City

September 14, 2013 0 Comments

Inner City came on the dance scene in 1988 with the amazing one-two punch of “Big Fun” and “Good Life.” Both tracks reached the top of the Billboard dance chart, the first and second of five chart-toppers for the duo comprised of Detroit DJ/producer Kevin Saunderson and Chicago vocalist Paris Grey.

Now new remixes of “Good Life” have been commissioned to celebrate Inner City’s 25th anniversary. The seminal house track’s reverberating synths have been given new life on a package that features 11 revamps spanning different genres. Techno and deep house make the cut, as one would expect, but “Good Life” also gets the tech-house, drum-and-bass, and breaks treatments. Saunderson’s son Dantiez even contributes a remix, continuing the family legacy.

My pick of the “Good Life” 2020 Remixes package comes from London’s Matt Swallwood. His deft refresh of the classic track encapsulates what made it so special the first time around, bridging the old and the new quite brilliantly.
