Cher covers Miley Cyrus

If you’ve been breathing at any point in the last week, it’s been hard to miss Cher promoting the release of her new album, Closer To The Truth. Besides the prerequisite television interviews, the toast of Twitter also participated in an iTunes #AskCher session on Friday and a Reddit AMA yesterday, bringing additional attention to her 26th studio album.

TheLastSongSoundtrack“Woman’s World,” the first single and lead track from Closer To The Truth, became Cher’s eighth #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart in July. For the follow-up, “I Hope You Find It,” the diva leaves the club behind, changing lanes to share an emotional, country-tinged ballad. The song was originally recorded by Miley Cyrus for the 2010 film, The Last Song, in which she co-starred.

Produced by Mark Taylor (“Believe”), Cher delivers a powerful performance with “I Hope You Find It.” Her status as a living legend — and her self-deprecating wit — sometimes obscures her very real vocal talents, but here’s evidence that Cher isn’t joking around. She’s still got it.

Truth be told, if this was 1990, “I Hope You Find It” would easily find a home on the Hot 100. Currently, Jay-Z is the only over-40 artist in the top 10. Still, Cher reached #1 with “Believe” in 1999 at 52, so who’s to say a  67-year-old can’t manage the same in 2020?

Cher’s not the only one who’s recently covered a Miley Cyrus ballad. Last week, the sisters HAIM tackled her current #1 single “Wrecking Ball” for BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge.
