If someone’s gonna bite my style, it might as well be one of the biggest names in broadcasting.
Today, noting the sorry state of the economy, Oprah presented a pared-down version of her annual “Favorite Things” show. Rather than lavishing her audience with a sleigh-full of surprises, the Queen of Talk instead showed folks how to “Have a Thrifty Holiday!” (Having just watched the episode, it seems the Big O is big on boxes this year.)
But on to the no-charge Christmas tuneage. Noting that the “gift of music doesn’t cost very much at all and everybody loves it,” Oprah created Holiday Hits 2008, offered as a free download at Oprah.com. “[It’s] a fabulous collection of this year’s best holiday music, or at least I think it is,” says Oprah, noting that she “partnered with some of the biggest names in music.”
As you might expect, it’s a little middle-of-the-road mom-centric, but here’s what Oprah’s eight-track Holiday Hits 2008 includes:
Faith Hill – “Joy To The World”
Tony Bennett – “I’ll Be Home For Christmas”
Il Divo – “O Holy Night”
Josh Groban – “It Came Upon The Midnight Clear”
Brian McKnight – “It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year”
Amy Grant – “O Come All Ye Faithful”
Harry Connick, Jr. – “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas”
Aretha Franklin – “Silent Night”
In addition to posting the songs, Oprah’s team has created matching CD label and cover art to download, too. The complete package is available for download at Oprah.com for the next 48 hours, so don’t miss this seasonal mix while it lasts.
Might be a nice way to thank mom for making tomorrow’s Thanksgiving feast.
