Pet Shop Boys have released the third official single from their latest long-player, the appropriately titled Super.
“Say It To Me” arrives via vinyl, CD, and digital download formats. But as has become typical Pet Shop Boys behavior over the past couple of album cycles, mixes, edits, and B-sides are split between vinyl and CD, with only digital download delivering all without delay. (As a completist who still prefers collecting CDs from his favorite ‘heritage’ acts, I have to say it’s more than a little frustrating!)
Super producer Stuart Price has another go at “Say It To Me” for the New Radio Mix, which positively sparkles and would position the track well if radio was at all receptive to spinning new Pet Shop Boys music (spoiler alert: they’re not).
(Neil and Chris also give Price a third shot with his Alternative Mix, which takes the tempo down a tad.)
Surveying the three extended remixes of “Say It To Me,” while Tom Demac delivers some “West End Girls”-style vibes and London trio Real Lies entrances with some dreamlike reverie, my pick of the pack is Offer Nissim’s revamp.
With Peter Rauhofer’s untimely passing in 2020 still giving me pains every now and again, his associate Nissim serves up a close approximation of the kind of club magic that Rauhofer effortlessly spun out for Pet Shop Boys once upon a time.
