I really did think that O Christmas Free had wrapped for the year, but while browsing the Borders site I came upon a holiday treat worth sharing from club diva, Kristine W.
If you haven’t heard of her, here’s a little history: Kristine W’s very first single, 1994’s “Feel What You Want,” hit #1 on the Billboard dance chart, the first of nine consecutive chart-toppers. Although that record-setting streak was interrupted by a #2 placement of 2005’s “I’ll Be Your Light,” the singer who got her start in Las Vegas has since taken top tally honors twice more. Her 2008 cover of Diana Ross’ “The Boss” was the most recent to reach pole position.
In November, Kristine released Hey Mr. Christmas. The seven-track EP features two originals (“Mr. Christmas” and “Everyday’s A Holiday”) co-written and produced by legendary UK team, Love To Infinity; club-ready versions of “Hard Candy Christmas,” “O Holy Night,” and “Mary, Did You Know”; a jazzy “My Favorite Things”; and an acoustic version of Kristine’s 2004 #1 hit, “The Wonder Of It All,” featuring pianist Jim Brickman.
Kristine originally recorded “O Holy Night” 2001, though the full-length Illicit and Welcome & Joe Carrano mixes weren’t made commercially available until 2004. There aren’t many Christmas songs issued to the clubs, and even less by big-name artists. Besides Kristine W’s “O Holy Night,” only Christina Aguilera’s take on “The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire),” remixed by Thunderpuss, and Mariah Carey’s “Joy To The World,” reworked by David Morales, come to mind. (Good luck finding the extended versions of those two tracks).
So while this post is a tad tardy, coming two days after Christmas, get a headstart on next year’s holiday shindig with a free download of Kristine W’s “O Holy Night” (the edited mix from Hey Mr. Christmas).
And consider adding the full-length EP to your holiday music collection: Hey Mr. Christmas is available via iTunes, Amazon, and direct from Kristine W’s site.
