’88 lines about a 4-time Grammy nominee

January 8, 2009 0 Comments

Was alerted to this release via an ad on Facebook yesterday, though I later discovered that Perez Hilton had given it a shout-out in mid-December. If, like me, you avoid Perez like the plague, then it’s new to you and, therefore, worth noting here.

“It” is Adele 1988, a mashup from DJ/mixtape producer Mick Boogie that marries tracks from the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter’s album, 19, with “the hip-hop sensibilities of the late 1980s, considered by many [to be] hip-hop’s golden age.”

Now 19 was one of my favorite albums from 2008, but as these sort of grey market reinterpretations often go, Adele 1988 is a mixed bag. The nVMe version of “Right As Rain” isn’t, but the tracks that do work, particularly the Remrot Remixes of “First Love” and “Make You Feel My Love,” make the Mick Boogie & Friends’ effort well worth the free download.

Yep, free. You could be spinning Adele 1988 mere minutes after reading this. Pick it up via Mick Boogie’s site or Get Right Music.
