Though it’s been over a year since the release of “Let Me Think About It” by Ida Corr vs. Fedde Le Grande, my favorite dance tune of 2008, it’s taken nearly that long for a worthy successor to surface. Well, make that two worthy successors, both of which feature killer club-ready rhythms and some of the female/male vocal sparring I so loved in the Corr/Le Grand track.
Rudenko – “Everybody”
Born and raised in Moscow, 23-year-old Leonid Rudenko has been honing his production skills since he was ten (or so says his bio, if it’s to be believed). He’s signed to Data Records, the same UK label as Fedde Le Grand, an association that would seem to support the link I hear between “Let Me Think About It” and “Everybody.”
“Everybody” features the vocal talents of Charleene Rená, a London-based singer and sometime model who once auditioned for the European version of The Pussycat Dolls (she made it to the finals before deciding to stick to a solo thing). Rená is currently in the running as one of FHM magazine’s 100 Sexiest Girls, and watching the video to “Everybody,” it’s pretty apparent why she’s a strong contender:

Filly – “Sweat (The Drip Drop Song)”
The second floor-filler that deserves to be heard comes from Filly. Born in Manchester (England England), she was discovered while singing as a kid at her mom’s birthday party in a restaurant. Now 19, she’s laying claim to a brand of music she calls Sliide, a melding of pop, urban, and dance genres.
“Sweat (The Drip Drop Song)” is the first single from Filly’s debut, Sliideshow (currently unissued in the States). This drums and percussion-based affair features shifting tempos that take the track from slinky-sexy to dancefloor frenzy in the span of three-plus minutes. While the original is great on its own terms, the UK-based Wideboys deliver a rework that’s the real star.
Actually, Wideboys turned in two mixes of “Sweat,” but only their House Mix is worth hearing. Check out the clip below to hear it, but be warned; the brilliance ends at 2:05, when their comparatively ridiculous Up Norf Mix takes over (guess they dance differently in Great Britain):
