Hooked on a ‘Feeling’

While The Black Eyed Peas‘ “Boom Boom Pow” continues its seemingly unending aural assault on a submissive nation, clocking 10 weeks and counting at #1 (sans discernible hook or chorus), I’ve been left to wonder what to make of such musical madness. But as a citizen of said nation, I must admit I can’t quite extricate the tune from my noggin either (absence of hook or chorus be damned).

Still I had no plans to pick up The E.N.D., The Black Eyed Peas’ new album, until they took to the stage of the Ed Sullivan Theater last Tuesday night, performing “I Gotta Feeling” on Letterman. Even if you didn’t catch them then, you probably saw the Target commercial promoting the retailer’s deluxe edition of The E.N.D., which was scored to the Peas’ pulsating track (which sounds something like a cola commercial).

While pop music often traffics in lyrics about true love or broken hearts, file “I Gotta Feeling” under good vibrations. Messrs. and Ms. Peas are certain it’s gonna be a good night, y’all, so toss your cares aside. Unbelievably refreshing and perfectly timed for summer, “I Gotta Feeling” is undeniably catchy:

I’ve got a feeling that The Black Eyed Peas are gonna stake out some serious time at the top with this one, too. In fact, my brain could probably be persuaded to welcome “I Gotta Feeling” as its sole summer boarder.
