Many of 2009’s O Christmas Free pickings have been a bit less mainstream in message this time around (see: Lady Gaga). Continuing that left-of-center theme today is “Ain’t No Chimneys In The Projects” from Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, the first-ever holiday single from the righteous retro band.

This original Christmas tune reflects back to Jones’ childhood in the Brooklyn projects, wondering just how Santa would bring presents when her home had no chimney for him to shimmy down. But as she discovered, all that was needed was a little magic and the help of her mother:
