Chasing The Dragonette

I’ve had Fixin To Thrill, the second LP from Dragonette, on repeat since picking it up in January. But the album was actually released back in October, so my quandary about featuring the Canadian quartet was thus: Mention it here or move on? Then I decided that any hesitation was just silly, because Fixin To Thrill is much too good not to pass along, calendar be damned. Dragonette’s latest is particularly noteworthy if you appreciate, as I do, smart electropop that unabashedly celebrates ’80s New Wave.

Reviewing my iPod ratings of Fixin To Thrill‘s 12 tracks, eight scored at least four stars. That’s a stellar average, perhaps best represented by the five-star earning “Pick Up The Phone,” a catchy number that dials up the guitar from “Jessie’s Girl” on its chorus. Singer Martina Sorbara has a throaty Christina Amphlett (Divinyls) thing going on, with a spoonful of Gwen Stefani sweetness. Hear here:
