Screen Gems

‘Blood’ from a Stone

Though the James Bond film franchise remains in limbo as MGM searches for a suitor willing to assume the studio’s $3.7 billion debt, the iconic character lives on in a new videogame, James Bond 007: Blood Stone, expected later this year.< Daniel Craig lends his voice and likeness as the titular British spy, with Dame Judi Dench similarly returning as Bond’s handler, M. Interestingly, pop soulstress Joss Stone nabbed the role of Nicole Hunter, the latest Bond girl. Stone’s been doing a bit of acting in recent years, making her film debut in 2006’s Eragorn and on television in Showtime’s The Tudors, playing Henry VIII’s fourth wife, Anne of Cleves. Going from granola to glam, she looks quite fetching as a female fatale (full head-to-toe photo here).

Stone isn’t neglecting her day job, however. She contributed the Blood Stone theme song, “I’ll Take It All,” written and performed with Dave Stewart. I haven’t been especially excited by Bond themes in recent memory (Chris Cornell’s “You Know My Name” from Casino Royale was particularly dreadful), and though the new tune appears in a videogame and not a proper film, it’s still a solid entry from the post-Shirley Bassey era.

Have a listen to “I’ll Take It All” via the Blood Stone title sequence:

“I’ll Take It All” isn’t the first collaboration between Joss Stone and Dave Stewart. The two teamed up earlier this year for the charity single, “Stand Up To Cancer.” (Noble cause, limp tune.)

James Bond 007: Blood Stone is available for pre-order via Amazon, which lists a release date of November 2nd.
