Robyn slayed it in San Francisco on Saturday night. I was at that show, the second stop of her All Hearts mini-tour featuring co-headliner Kelis and supporting act Dan Black, and haven’t seen such a committed performance from an artist of any stripe in quite some time. I was particularly ecstatic that the platinum-coiffed electro-popster included both “The Girl And The Robot” and “Dream On” in her setlist, tunes on which she’d guested for Royksopp and Christian Falk, respectively.
I swear that Robyn and I connected during “Dream On,” and I’m sure others in the energetic crowd at Mezzanine felt the same way at different times during the show. Maybe I should really dream on, but this post-concert tweet from @robynkonichiwa confirms it was a special evening for her too: “Thank you San Fran!!!! I haven’t had so much fun on a stage in years!“
Coming off her two-night stay in the City by the Bay (another show followed on Sunday), Robyn has released the video for “Hang With Me.” It’s the first single from Body Talk Pt. 2, the penultimate entry in her planned 2010 album trilogy. An acoustic version of “Hang With Me” first appeared on Pt. 1, and has now been made move-your-feet friendly. Direct from Robyn, here’s her take the track: “Pop should be seductive and sweet when it can. And I felt like I could be on ‘Hang With Me,’ in a uncompromising way. It’s like a sweet and sour bon-bon wrapped in melancholy. Yum.”
It’s a delicious treat indeed, so open wide and come along for Robyn’s latest ride, seeing the world through her eyes via tour bus, roller coaster, and stage:
Last week, Robyn revealed the album art (at right) and tracklisting (below) for Body Talk Pt. 2, out on September 7th. Pt. 1 producers Klas Åhlund and Diplo return, and Robyn’s also bringing Kleerup (“With Every Heartbeat”), Savage Skulls, and Snoop Dogg to her dance party.
