Track of the Moment

Sister, Sisters

Kid Sister captured the attention of indie-music writers with her singles like 2007’s “Pro Nails,” on which Kanye West guested, and last year’s “Right Hand Hi.” Unfortunately, that blogospheric buzz hasn’t translated into mainstream success for the Chicago hip-hopper.

Then consider Nina Sky, the twin-sister duo that came bursting out in 2004 with the inescapable hit, “Move Your Body,” a song that peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100. Unfortunately, after releasing their debut album, experiencing delays with their follow-up, and ultimately deciding to switch to a different label, the sophomore set that Nicole and Natalie Albino recorded in 2007 has been locked in limbo (alas, it would seem the proverbial grass was not greener).

Perhaps fortunes for both sister acts will turn now that they’ve teamed up for “Look Out Weekend.” The song is a hip-pop party that, as its title suggests, will most certainly have you awaiting Friday’s arrival too. It appears on the Jersey Shore soundtrack, and might just be the only thing associated with the MTV reality show that has any redeeming cultural value. Hear here:

While Nina Sky continues to sort out their record-contract woes (even enlisting their Twitter fans in the effort), the sisters decided to hit the studio to do it for themselves. The resulting EP from those recording sessions, The Other Side, was released as a free download earlier this month.
