Turn It Up

‘Clap Your Hands,’ say yeah

Following yesterday’s hip-pop treat from Kid Sister and Nina Sky, here’s a danceable ditty from Sia that also deserves a spot on your Labor Day Weekend playlist as we get closer to celebrating the end of summer.

“Clap Your Hands” actually dates back to April, the second single released in advance of the Aussie singer-songwriter’s fourth album, We Are Born, which arrived in mid-June. You’re likely familiar with Sia via “Breathe Me,” her moving tune that played over the closing scenes on the Six Feet Under series finale in 2005, but much of We Are Born is tonally miles from that, a 180-degree shift to upbeat pop that Sia credits to her relationship with Le Tigre’s JD Samson (and I to producer Greg Kurstin).

“Clap Your Hands” is a foot-tapping, hip-shaking, and yes, hand-clapping good time. Though I’m tardy on featuring this tune, with the dog days of summer barking miserably loud right about now, shift yourself into a better mood by answering Sia’s catchy call to action. Get up and get into it:

Shortly before We Are Born hit stores, Sia cancelled plans to hit the road in support of the album, later sharing that she’d been diagnosed with Graves’ Disease and was focusing her efforts on treatment. Let’s send some good vibes her way.
