One of the more interesting music releases this fall (out next week, actually) is Lonely Avenue, the collaboration between Ben Folds and Nick Hornby. The Sing-Off judge handled music and vocals, while the High Fidelity author was responsible (surprise!) for penning all the lyrics.
Folds and Hornby share some background about how their unique “musical short stories” project came together:
Last month, “From Above,” the first single from Lonely Avenue, was released, a little story about soulmates who never connected, sporting some nice squiggly synth work. Another tune birthed from the Folds-Hornby partnership is “Things You Think,” featuring Jack Conte and Nataly Dawn of Pomplamoose. It’s not on the album, probably because it sounds more novelty, especially with Hornby speaking on it. The track is up for separate sale on iTunes, and the four got together to record what they call a “VideoSong.” Uh, okay:
