On December 14, Sony/Epic will release Michael, the first posthumous album from the late Michael Jackson. Many expect a Tupac-like run that could last for years, or even decades, as the late singer’s estate combs through the vaults for unreleased material to package.
The album art for Michael is quintessentially over-the-top, depicting the singer during various points in his solo career, a nod to when these “new” tracks were originally put to tape. First single, “Breaking News,” is reportedly of more recent vintage, recorded in 2007 when the singer was residing in New Jersey for a time (too early to have a run-in with the Jersey Shore cast, unfortunately).
Based on the song’s title and the teaser clip below, I think it’s safe to assume Jackson was once more mining “Leave Me Alone”-like thematic territory, but I’m looking forward to hearing more:
“Breaking News” will begin streaming exclusively on Monday at MichaelJackson.com.
But that’s not the only noteworthy update coming from the King of Pop’s camp. Tickets go on sale tomorrow for Michael Jackson The IMMORTAL World Tour, the new Cirque du Soleil show that begins a lengthy tour next fall prior to landing in Las Vegas in 2012 or 2020 as a permanent attraction.
