‘Together’ We Will Find A Place

Today provides one answer to the question, “Who still uses MySpace?” Pet Shop Boys, actually, who’ve premiered the video for their brand-new single, “Together,” on the former top-dog social network (which now aims to rebrand itself as a music and entertainment hub).

“Together” is taken from the new Ultimate Pet Shop Boys compilation, out now in the UK and Europe. Besides a single-disc edition, the deluxe package adds a DVD of the duo’s BBC performances from the past 25 years. No date has been scheduled for a U.S. release, just the vague declaration that it won’t be coming out on Capitol Records “until the new year.”

The same delay is in effect for the “Together” single too, which comes out on November 29 elsewhere. In typical Pet Shop Boys fashion, “Together” will be issued on various physical and digital formats, paired with bonus tracks and remixes. There are studio covers of The Dave Clark Five and Kate McGarrigle, plus a new remix and dub of “West End Girls,” the song that really started it all, by Grum that Neil and Chris really dig (really, really dig). If like me, you want it all and want it sooner than sometime in the future, visit your favorite import source.

But right this very moment, we all can enjoy the music video for “Together,” um, together, territories be damned. Shot in Estonia with director Peeter Rebane (the pop duo sure does love them some Eastern Bloc), my favorite moment comes toward the end of the dance-centric clip, with Neil and Chris beaming in the wings like a pair of proud parents. [Update 11/12: The MySpace file inexplicably has no audio at the moment, so here’s the YouTube embed.]

I’ve stumbled upon a lengthy video interview with Rebane about the making of the “Together” music video, if anyone cares to translate it for me. Or is there an app for that?
