After months of leaks (many fake) and teaser clips that drove fans into a foaming-at-the-mouth frenzy, Daft Punk‘s soundtrack to Tron: Legacy was finally released today. The much-anticipated sequel to 1982’s Tron, one of the first major films to heavily feature computer graphics, opens December 17.
When Disney announced in early 2009 that the studio had picked Daft Punk to score Tron: Legacy, it was one of those “only in the movies” moments typically far removed from Hollywood reality. The electronic music duo of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo couldn’t be a more perfect match, having long donned lighted robot suits to obscure their identities (something of an unintended approximation of the Tron costumes). And the futuristic component of the computer-assisted films fit nicely within Daft Punk’s musical wheelhouse.
Today, Daft Punk premiered the video for “Derezzed,” one of the highlights from the Tron: Legacy soundtrack (and one of the album’s shorter cuts). The pair stars in the clip, but isn’t done with their teasing, as you’ll see by the end:
