‘Lights’ Fantastic

After topping the BBC’s Sound Of 2010 poll and taking home the Critics’ Choice award at last year’s BRIT ceremonies, it appears Ellie Goulding is going all in to win over America in 2011.

The Londoner’s debut album, Lights, will finally hit the U.S. on March 8, a year after its UK release. Boasting three bonus tracks as a gesture for the long wait (including a cover of Elton John’s “Your Song”), Lights‘ arrival kicks off a busy promotional period for Goulding. Today she announced a 14-city North American tour, bookended by appearances at South By Southwest and Coachella. Tickets go on sale tomorrow via her site, and I’m looking forward to seeing the singer-songwriter strut her stuff live in San Francisco.

“I’m really excited to come to America and visit new places and see new countryside,” Goulding says. “I feel ready to introduce my music and see what people think of it there. I’m hoping they’ll like it and be inspired, the way I was when I first heard certain artists. I want to create that excitement you get when you’ve discovered something special and feel happy to have ever come across it in the first place.”

While we’ve got a little over a month until Lights hits your favorite music purveyor, a taster EP, An Introduction To Ellie Goulding, is out now. While I’ve previously pumped “Guns And Horses” and “Starry Eyed,” the EP also sports “Lights,” the title track from her forthcoming album. It’s is a fantastic slice of electro-disco, which would only be made better if Goulding was singing “Sister Sledge” instead of “sister slept.” Visual accompaniment premiered a couple of weeks ago:

Lights was Britain’s best-selling debut album in 2010, and Goulding could capture two more BRIT Awards on February 15, as the singer-songwriter is nominated for British Female Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act.
