Guiding ‘Lights’

The third-person POV appears to be in vogue these days, at least for those churning out dance tunes. Like last week’s track from Billie Ray Martin (“Sweet Suburban Disco”), Dutch DJ Wendel Kos‘ “Dancing On The Lights” is also about a woman who seeks regular shelter on the dancefloor.

Dancing alone, she leaves her “worries all behind with every song.” Sure, I’ll allow that ‘club as cure for whatever ails you’ isn’t the freshest of themes, but Andrea Holley, voice of the narrator for Kos’ version of the tried-and-true clubland tale, renders an emotionally invested performance that elevates “Dancing On The Lights” from the pack. That Holley sounds like Beyoncé here and there while doing it, well, that doesn’t hurt:

If you prefer a mix of the less typical four-on-the-floor variety, Kos’ progressive house-inflected First Sunlight Mix of “Dancing On The Lights” is a stunner.
