What would it sound like if early-era Pet Shop Boys had been fronted instead by a pitched-up Robyn, circa Please or Actually?
The answer, as provided by Swedish newcomer Vanbot (aka Ester Ideskog) is “exponentially poptastic.” Exactly as one who’s good with math might predict from such a pairing.
Thanks to first single, “Make Me, Break Me,” Vanbot has been slowly breaking across the Interweb. I was tipped to this bright talent last Friday via Popjustice, but fellow bloggers like Pop In Stereo and Scandipop have also become instant devotees. (Sweden rarely steers us wrong, music-wise.)
Based on the promo photo, not only does Vanbot sound a bit like Robyn, it would appear the two also share a stylist and hairdresser: “Pläderanden hår, dam?”
“Make Me, Break Me,” a free download below, will appear on Vanbot’s eponymous debut, coming April 15. Listen to clips here.
