Gaga brings her ‘Edge’ to ‘American Idol’

After an impressive #3 debut last week, Lady Gaga’s “The Edge Of Glory,” the third single from Born This Way, dropped precipitously to #19 on the new Billboard Hot 100. A steep decline in digital sales is to blame, while on the brighter side, another new song from the album, “Hair,” gets its start at #12 (but that one’s billed as a digital preview track, not an official single).

Maybe Gaga’s performance of “The Edge Of Glory” on last night’s American Idol finale will turn things around and set the single back on an upward climb. The Born This Way closing number is one of the album’s best tracks , though the Idol sound mix was a bit muddy. And the sax man subbing for Clarence Clemons totally blew the featured part with his limp-lipped turn on the instrument. Mother Monster should take aim at that pretender.

Wait — that was Clarence Clemons on the Idol stage?! I guess even The Big Man can have a bad day.

Fans of So You Think You Can Dance, which has its season premiere tonight at 8/7c on FOX (yay!), might have recognized the guy getting close with Lady Gaga on the top of her rock. That’s Mark Kanemura, one of the finalists from Season 4, who’s been dancing with Gaga on and off since 2009.

Purchase Lady Gaga – “The Edge Of Glory” via iTunes, Amazon MP3. But why spend a buck or so for one track, when you can get the album for 99 cents? Yep, Born This Way [+Digital Booklet]Amazon MP3 is at it again today.
