Creature unleashes ‘So High’ with Stephen Hague

May 30, 2011 1 Comment

Nearly three years have passed since I featured Canadian dance-pop band, Creature, whose 2008 debut album, No Sleep At All, then import-only, was dancing my pants off at the time.

Following concert tours, festival performances, and promoting the release of No Sleep At All in Mexico (2009) and France (2010), last summer Creature set off for London to record their sophomore album with legendary electro-pop producer Stephen Hague (OMD, New Order, Pet Shop Boys) behind the board.

The infectious disco of “So High,” co-written with Hague, is the first single from Sick Imagination, Creature’s forthcoming full-length from those sessions in the English countryside. Lisa Ivy’s seductive, breathy vocals float above four-on-the-floor drums, bass, and synths paying obvious (sped-up) homage to Blondie’s “Heart Of Glass,” one of Creature’s New Wave heroes. Cowbell strikes and disco-whistles in the bridge amplify the song’s beneath-the-glitterball glow.

Released via iTunes in Canada at the start of May, “So High” is being thoughtfully offering as a free download to Creature’s fans in the rest of the world. No release date has been set for the 11-track Sick Imagination, but you can listen to snippets of four more songs, including “Prom Prom,” about a high-school girl who desires to attend the big dance with a same-sex date.
