The Rec Room: Cat Deeley summers with Stevie Nicks

If it’s summer, I must be resuscitating my crush on Cat Deeley, the gorgeous host of So You Think You Can Dance, which remains my very favorite reality competition. Now enjoying her seventh season in the gig (the show’s in its eighth go-round), I still believe Deeley is television’s best presenter, for reasons previously shared.

For Entertainment Weekly‘s recent Best of Summer 2011 issue, Deeley was asked to contribute her personal Must List. Making her music-centric tally were The Black Keys’ “Howlin’ For You,” Snow Patrol’s “Crack The Shutters,” “anything from U2,” and Barry Manilow’s “Copacabana.” “People have been known at my pool parties to actually act out the story,” she says of that pick.

But the tune sitting at the top of Deeley’s list is Stevie Nicks’ “Italian Summer,” from the iconic singer’s recently released album, In Your Dreams. And good thing, since Deeley’s recommendation lets me throw the spotlight on Nicks’ wonderful new set of songs for a second time.

“[“Italian Summer”] is so gorgeous. It paints a picture of Stevie and her lost love affair,” Deeley says. “Stevie has told me what a big fan of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ she is and how she sits watching the show in her library with her pink hot-water bottle.”

Not sure what the hot-water bottle bit is all about, but the epic sweep of “Italian Summer” is definitely worth curling up with.

On last Thursday’s episode of So You Think You Can Dance, we were introduced to the Top 20 dancers and got to enjoy some fantastic pre-competition pairings. Tonight the real routines begin on the show, which airs at 8/7c on FOX.

While Deeley usually keeps her feet firmly planted on the SYTYCD stage, fingers-crossed that we get to see the host enjoying a a bit of manhandling on camera this season:

Seriously, it’s insane just how much I fancy Cat. Last night, she tweeted she was thinking of doing a behind-the-scenes web series from her SYTYCD dressing room. Yes, please!
