I don’t love a whole lot of hip-hop, but I’m looking forward to the July 19 release of Theophilus London‘s debut album, Timez Are Weird These Days, after falling head over heels for the Brooklyn-via-Trinidad rapper/singer’s Lovers Holiday EP in February.
That boundaries-blasting trip, effortlessly mixing rap, R&B, funk, pop, and rock — which I compared to P.M. Dawn’s genre-blending best — serves as a nice taster for London’s forthcoming full-length. Three tracks from Lovers Holiday will make repeat appearances, but in case you missed the earlier introduction to this rising star, “Last Name London,” the first single from Timez Are Weird These Days, a new rap-centric track with a dark electro undercurrent, should cement his name in your head. (And you’ll know how to properly pronounce it.)
Timez Are Weird These Days arrives July 19 via Reprise.
