Video Premiere

Theophilus London’s Wackadoodle World

Theophilus London is certainly working overtime on promo for his debut album, Timez Are Weird These Days, out next Tuesday.

Less than a month after premiering a video for the album’s lead track, “Last Name London,” the dapper rapper has released an animated clip for “Girls Girls $,” one of three songs making a repeat appearance from his Lovers Holiday EP. “Girls Girls $” is total ear candy, with a beat reminiscent of C+C Music Factory and a Speak & Spell sample.

Illustrated by Tim Walkiewicz, animated by Nate Kim, and produced by Ben Solomon, the wackadoodle “Girls Girls $” video is like a more violent version of Robert Smigel‘s TV Funhouse, much of it at the hands of an alien crustacean. Here’s what London has to say for himself:

“This video was built on the hype and importance of the internet. NYC legends and hotspots, twitter personalities, quotes and everything hyped weather [sic] good or bad. I was intrigued by this character my friend Ben Solomon had on his avatar and approached him via twitter and email to talk about a concept. He came over an [sic] we sketched out a few things and brainstormed. This is the modern day Waldo. Can u spot anyone? #isityou?”

Not a denizen of the NYC club scene, I’m not very good at this game, having only ID’d London and Twinkie the Kid. Maybe you’ll fare better:
