Try A Little ‘Tenderness’

August 13, 2011 3 Comments

Since it was only last week that I’d mentioned I’d been on alert for something new from Deborah Cox, I’m not sure how “Tenderness,” released in June, missed my radar.

“Tenderness” appears on Mix Magic Music, the debut mix album from SugarHouse Crew, a new project from DJ/producer Tony Moran. It’s the fourth club collaboration from Moran and Cox, a list that includes “Easy As Life,” from Broadway’s Aida (in which she starred) and an original track, “House Is Not A Home,” both from 2005, plus a revamp of Chic’s “Everybody Dance,” released in 2007.

The pair’s reunion on the dancefloor has been a long time coming, and I do hope that remixes of “Tenderness” are planned, giving Cox a shot at an 11th #1 Billboard Dance/Club Play song (currently, she’s tied for ten with Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, and Pet Shop Boys). Though Mix Magic Music is a continuous mix compilation, “Tenderness” is the final track, so it’s not odd to subtract it from the set and spin it in isolation until those additonal mixes arrive. In addition to the melodious sounds of Deborah Cox, Mix Magic Music also features Tony Moran’s collaborations with Jennifer Holiday, Frenchie Davis, and Ultra Naté, some of which have been previously released.
