Bright Light Bright Light kept up quite a brisk pace in 2012.
The Wales-born, London-based synthpop artist began the year with the Blueprints EP, presenting solo-piano versions of songs from his debut album, Make Me Believe In Hope, which followed in June. In between and since, Bright Light Bright Light has premiered a series of colorful music videos, issued a pair of singles with top-notch B-sides and remixes (“Waiting For The Feeling” and “Feel It”), toured the UK as both headlining and support act, performed several gigs in New York City, hosted his ’90s club night in London (Another Night), made numerous mixtapes and mashups (including two bootleg versions of his album), and partied with Elton John on his private yacht. Amazingly, he also found time for an extended interview with yours truly.
Not surprisingly, the brilliant Make Me Believe In Hope has landed on several year-end lists. But what has Bright Light Bright Light been listening to these many months? Below, he graciously shares his five favorite albums of 2012 with Popservations, what he’ll remember most about this year, and what we can expect from him next.
Bright Light Bright Light’s 5 Favorite Albums of 2012:
“In no particular order…”
Bat For Lashes – The Haunted Man
Twin Shadow – Confess
Kindness – World, You Need A Change Of Mind
Hot Chip – In Our Heads
Elton John vs. PNAU – Good Morning To The Night
Memorable moment from 2012:
“I got to support Scissor Sisters on their UK tour. They’ve been one of my favorite bands since I first heard ‘Laura’, so getting to be part of their tour was amazing. Especially as Del [Marquis] and I got to play ‘Cry At Films’ together at The Roundhouse in London. Incredible musicians, and wonderful people.”
Coming in 2020:
“There will be another single in 2020, and some live dates, but largely I’ll be in the studio working on the next record. So we’ll see!”
