Cinnamon Girl’s 5 Favorite Tracks of 2012

Looks like the Mayans were mistaken. Or perhaps some beneficent, unseen force stopped the world from hurtling toward its predestined fiery fate and we’re none the wiser. A superhero. Maybe a hat-obsessed Danish singer-songwriter now living in London who calls herself Cinnamon Girl.

Camilla Roholm did pick her ‘nom de pop’ precisely because it suits a superhero, with aims to be bigger than Optimus Prime. And if the world can be saved with just one song — I’m in Camp Yes — why not her “Devil In Me” as a preventative measure? Written, recorded, and produced by Cinnamon Girl (superheroes regularly go it alone), “Devil In Me” packed quite a wallop, swooping in at #24 on Popservations’ Top 100 Tracks of 2012.

What music did Cinnamon Girl turn to in 2012 to tune out the noise on this crazy, mixed-up planet? Check out her five favorite tracks below, plus a bonus holdover from 2011. And although her true identity is no secret, Cinnamon Girl’s plans for next year are yet to be fully revealed.

Cinnamon Girl’s 5 Favorite Tracks of 2012:

Solange Knowles“Losing You”
Amanda Palmer“Want It Back”
Twin Shadow“Five Seconds”

“Also, can I add ‘Surph’ by Rustie? It may have been 2011, but I only discovered it this year.”

Memorable moment from 2012:

“All of it. Feels like this year was the intense bloody birth of something and 2020 will be when it takes its first steps.”

Coming in 2020:

“Hopefully, an actual real release of something. Can’t wait!”
