I don’t know if Stacey Q is having a moment, but I’m having a Stacey Q moment.
Somehow it’s turned out to be Stacey Q Weekend here on Popservations. First there was a Friday Flashback dedicated to “Two Of Hearts,” inspired by the singer’s appearance at a freestyle concert I’d recently attended. That was followed by yesterday’s Saturdance post regarding Grass Is Greener’s new remixes of her 1986 hit single. And now “Two Of Hearts” is the subject of today’s Cover Story.
While doing a bit of background for Friday Flashback, I came across Annie‘s cover of “Two Of Hearts.” Somehow I’d missed her 2008 team-up with Richard X, but discovering their version now dovetails nicely with my assertion that Stacey Q’s “Two Of Hearts” doesn’t fit the freestyle category. While the original production has none of the genre’s markers, amazingly Annie and Richard X’s cover brought the two together over two decades years later. The mix is fantastic.

Annie and Richard X are joining forces once more but focusing on original material. The A&R EP features five new tracks, including “Back Together,” co-written by Little Boots. The EP arrives four years after Annie’s album Don’t Stop, a delay she’s committed to avoiding in the future. Look for it on August 5.
