Chvrches has covered Bauhaus’ “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” for the soundtrack to Vampire Academy, which opened in theaters this weekend.
The Scottish synthpop trio’s entrancing take on the lugubrious goth classic, now an near-ancient 35 years old, doesn’t suck. Spectacularly hypnotic while running less than half the length of Bauhaus’ original, Chvrches’ cover of “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” should do the trick of keeping moviegoers in seats as the end credits roll. I could do with hearing more like this from Lauren Mayberry and Co.
In addition to Chvrches contribution, the Vampire Academy soundtrack also features songs by Sky Ferreira, Goldfrapp, Natalia Kills, Au Revoir Simone, Katy Perry, and more.
Purchase Chvrches – “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” (Bauhaus cover) via iTunes, Amazon MP3.
