As we wait for new music from Clare Maguire (a follow-up to her 2011 debut album, Light After Dark, a set she isn’t terribly keen about in retrospect), the British singer-songwriter has recorded a cover of Joni Mitchell’s “The Last Time I Saw Richard.” The closing track on Mitchell’s classic 1971 album, Blue, “The Last Time I Saw Richard” follows in sequence after “River” and “A Case Of You.”
Maguire’s gorgeous vocal has garnered notice from fellow Brits, including Theo Hutchcraft of Hurts and Marina and the Diamonds, who deemed her “Birmingham’s Dolly Parton” and emphatically declared the cover “Stunning.” Love can be so sweet.
To hear a tonally different side of Maguire’s talent — no less stunning to these ears — check out “Limitless,” a new club banger created with DJ/producer BURNS that recalls Calvin Harris’ team-up with Florence Welch.
