Anyone who covers “Purple Rain” had better have the goods to deliver what is Prince’s most signature song.
Stepping into the Purple One’s well-worn Cuban heels on her new album, The Gun In Your Hand, soul rocker Danielia Cotton can walk tall. Her rendition of “Purple Rain” is by turns pleading, fiery, and mournful. It’s a phenomenal performance from an artist who has suffered personal devastation in the past couple of years (the miscarriage of twins, a battle with thyroid cancer) and persevered, pouring those emotions out through her own songs and covers like this.
Purchase Danielia Cotton – “Purple Rain” (Prince cover) via iTunes, Amazon MP3.
