Ahead of the release of his sophomore album Empire in June, GRMLN has covered Vampire Weekend‘s “The Kids Don’t Stand A Chance,” the final track on the indie rockers’ 2008 eponymous debut and its final single.
Speaking about the upcoming Empire, Yoodoo Park, the 20-year-old college student behind GRMLN, says it’s “more focused on live instruments, as well as being more aggressive and abrasive compared to my earlier stuff and this cover. I just made this song so people can relax and zone out to, hopefully.”
GRMLN’s cover of “The Kids Don’t Stand A Chance” isn’t the drastic departure from the original that his take on “Stand By Me” was, but it’s got a gentle hum that makes it absolutely perfect for weekend listening, just as Park intended.
