I Am A Camera covers Marianne Faithfull

Following up their fantastic, industrial-tinged rendition of Pet Shop Boys’ “Rent,” posted this past spring, UK duo I Am A Camera continues their HEROES cover-song series with a cinematic rendition of Marianne Faithfull’s “Who Will Take My Dreams Away?”

MarianneFaithfullThe heartrending ballad was written and produced by composer Angelo Badalamenti (Twin Peaks) for the 1995 film, The City Of Lost Children. That same year, Badalamenti and Faithfull collaborated on A Secret Life, her first studio album of original material in over a decade. “Who Will Take My Dreams Away?” was also later featured in another foreign-language film, 1999’s The Girl On The Bridge.

As in Faithfull and Badalamenti’s original, Francesca Ross and Ian Watt frame “Who Will Take My Dreams Away?” with some mournful strings. But by filling in the spaces with some electronic touches, I Am A Camera’s modern update cries out for inclusion in a new film’s end credits.
