If you caught Kelly Clarkson on her All I Ever Wanted Tour a couple of years back, you’ll recall that a medley of Alanis Morissette’s “That I Would Be Good” and Kings Of Leon’s “Use Somebody” was one of the in-concert highlights.
After slaying audiences night after night with her inspired combo, Clarkson has finally released a studio version of “That I Would Be Good/Use Somebody.” The medley is included on The Smoakstack Sessions Vol. 2, a 5-song EP bundled with the physical edition of her new Greatest Hits – Chapter 1 and sold exclusively via Clarkson’s website. (The Smoakstack Sessions Vol. 1 was offered last year with purchase of her Stronger album.)
Two other covers that Clarkson performed on that same tour, The Black Keys’ “Lies” and Patsy Cline’s “Walking After Midnight,” are also included on The Smoakstack Sessions Vol. 2. I’m still waiting for a studio rendition of her brilliant take on The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army,” at which point my life will be complete.
Here’s the tracklisting for The Smoakstack Sessions, Vol. 2:
01 “I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You)” (Aretha Franklin cover)
02 “Your Cheatin’ Heart” (Hank Williams cover)
03 “Walking After Midnight” (Patsy Cline cover)
04 “That I Would Be Good/Use Somebody” (Alanis Morissette/Kings Of Leon cover)
05 “Lies” (The Black Keys cover)
