Laid flat by the flu a couple of weeks ago, I missed this year’s Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco. Leather isn’t my look (nor any other sort of fetish accoutrements), but had I felt better, I’d have been clothed in something comparatively conservative to see The Limousines, Little Boots, and Ladyhawke, all of whom appeared at this year’s festival.
One of the moments I missed was Little Boots cover of Bronski Beat’s “Smalltown Boy.” Performing the 1984 gay-themed classic at Folsom is as perfect an intersection of music and setting as I could imagine. But now boys (and girls) residing in itty-biggy burgs and bigger can all have a listen to Little Boots’ studio version of “Smalltown Boy,” taken from the new Ministry of Sound Uncovered, Vol. 4.
I’ve previously picked up the other volumes of Uncovered via Amazon UK, but this latest addition appears to be an Australian-only release, so taking Little Boots’ “Smalltown Boy” home with you is anything but easy.
For Little Boots’ fans who desire more immediate gratification, free downloads of her new mixtape and this remix dub of Jupiter’s “Juicy Luicy” should help scratch that itch:
