Old Guard, New Order

Next month, New Order will headline the the UK’s newest music festival, the charmingly titled Festival No.6, held in the village of Portmeirion, in North Wales.

In honor of the upcoming first edition, to be held September 14-16, 2012, the Brythoniad Male Voice Choir was commissioned by festival organizers to cover New Order’s seminal dance track, “Blue Monday.” First formed in 1964 in Blaenau Ffestiniog, the now 60-member choir arranged and recorded their version in the studio and then headed to the Festival No.6 site to film the video below. They even congregate aboard a concrete boat, the Amis Reunis, in time to sing, “I see a ship in the harbor.”

I bet these hale and hearty men might be able to broker some sort of truce between New Order and the band’s self-marooned bassist, Peter Hook, no?

Joining New Order on the inaugural Festival No.6 bill are Primal Scream, Spiritualized, British Sea Power, Jessie Ware, Summer Camp, Kindness, and many others. See the full lineup, which also incorporates dance music, string quartets, spoken word performances, film screenings, and more here.
