Purple Crush may now call Los Angeles home, but New York’s concrete jungle remains where Isla Cheadle and Jared Selter’s electropop dreams were made of.
Harkening back to their roots in the Big Apple’s underground club scene of the early aughts, the real-life couple has covered an electroclash classic, Fischerspooner’s “Emerge.”
I can’t quite compute that over a decade has passed since “Emerge” first surfaced, but Purple Crush’s cover sounds just as fresh and interesting as Fischerspooner’s original did in 2001. Maybe a movement in which musical contemporaries revisit each others’ tunes is an idea whose time has come.
Purple Crush premiered a music video for their track, “New Me,” last month. Catch The Dark Crystal-inspired clip here.
